A FRESH face will be patrolling the sidelines during the coming NCAA basketball season when giant network ABS-CBN returns as the league's television partner.
Former Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) housemate Myrtle Sarrosa will serve as the league’s new courtside reporter in Season 91, delivering updates and news from the sidelines.
“Kasi nagbabalik Kapamilya nga 'yung NCAA so this time around gusto nila maghanap ng mga personalities that will really bring out more fun (sa league),” said Myrtle, a broadcasting major from University of the Philippines Diliman, during the season launch of the league on Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The country’s oldest collegiate league last teamed up with ABS-CBN in 2011, and the partnership was renewed after the NCAA parted ways with Sports5.
But now that it returns to the Kapamilya network, ABS-CBN went looking for someone who can relate to the young audience of the NCAA, a role Myrtle suits just fine.
The 20-year old host of Umagang Kay Ganda was asked to audition for the job and was fortunate enough to be chosen.
“Kasi sa statistics, it really showed na 'yung audience ng NCAA is much younger, puro students. So sabi nila, why not find people who will be relatable doon sa students,” she added.
“So they asked me if I would you like to host, tapos they asked me to audition. Tapos grabe, sobrang blessed ko kasi nakuha ko siya,” she excitedly continued.
Although Myrtle has not tried any competitive sport after her stint in PBB in 2012, she said she became a basketball fan because of her father.
Now, she’ll not only be a fan but will be where the action is starting on June 27 when the NCAA kicks off its new season with the centerpiece event of basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena.
