MAPUA coach Atoy Co is dead serious in making Emilio Aguinaldo College point guard John Tayongtong pay for his actions that sparked the ugliest melee seen in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in years.

Co confirmed he is set to take legal action against the Generals point guard for punching Cardinals counterpart CJ Isit, triggering the free for all that emptied both benches and knocked Isit cold on Monday night.

“Yep, I will do that — to teach him a lesson,” Co told Spin.ph on Tuesday. “Hindi dapat ganun. Siya na nag-instigate lahat. Siya pa nauna sumuntok.”

“Tsaka nakababa naman yung kamay ng player ko,” the PBA icon added, referring to Isit. “Hindi naman siya nagtangkang sumuntok, ‘di ba?”

“Feeling ko naargabyado player ko, kaya I’ll bring him (Tayongtong) to court.”

Co said Isit sought medico-legal advice after the game and received a recommendation to have his injury checked by an opthalmologist due to a possible fracture in the eye area.

Co said as early as the second quarter of the ill-fated match, he has been asking the referees to keep an eye out for Tayongtong’s elbows, only for his request to fall on deaf ears.

“I’ve been telling the referees na tingnan yung siko ni Tayongtong bago siya tumanggap ng bola,” he said. “Pag kuha ng bola, nag-iiwan siya ng siko eh. Tsaka ang siko niya above the shoulder, sa leeg tumatama eh.”

“Eh ayaw ako pansinin ng referee,” he added. “Akala ng referee angal lang ako ng angal. Pinalalabas ng referee yung angal ko walang basis eh. Eh ‘di what happened?”
