JOSE Rizal University coach Vergel Meneses goes into the new NCAA season with a team made up mostly or rookies, but he sounds the least bit worried.

"Sinasabi ko naman sa kanila na as long as you play as a team, as long as you respect one another, and as long as you trust one another, even if you are rookies magiging maganda for the benefit of the team," he said.

Gone from the Heavy Bombers' roster are sharp-shooter Byron Villarias, high-scoring Nate Matute as well as former team John Lopez, leaving team captain Michael Mabulac, Jordan dela Paz and Philipi Paniamogan to lead from the front for the young team.

Meneses, though, has embraced the underdog role after figuring prominently in the title race last season.

"Even though we're not that strong, lumalaban (kami)," said the former PBA MVP.
