LETRAN has gained a major boost in its NCAA Season 91 campaign after boxing legend Manny Pacquiao officially assumed the position of team manager of the Knights.
Rumors started to swirl about the boxing icon’s involvement in the perennial NCAA contenders after Aldin Ayo, part of Pacquiao’s coaching staff with Kia Carnival in the PBA, was named coach of the school last December.
Athletic director and NCAA management committee representative Fr. Vic Calvo O.P. broke the news to Spin.ph on Wednesday night.
“The (signing is a) big boost financially and psychologically to the Letran community,” Calvo said in a phone conversation straight from Pacquiao’s house in Forbes Park, Makati Wednesday night where the contract signing was held.
“Knowing his passion for sports, he will be involved.”
The length of the contract was not disclosed, although Ayo is signed on for four years.
Pacquiao, named second highest-paid athlete in the world recently by Forbes, has been known for his generosity. He is known to give out bonuses from his own pocket to Kia players for every games the team wins.
