Pirates plot ambush: Unpredictability suddenly an asset for rejigged Lyceum squad

    Jun 24, 2013
"Everyone can step up sa team namin considering na nawala mga star players, yung mga veterans namin last season," says Lyceum coach Boni Tan. Jerome Ascano

LOSING almost your entire starting unit from the season before can be a big blow to teams, but Lyceum coach sees a positive side to it.

With his team now relying mostly on new players, Tan believes unpredictability has become an asset for the NCAA minnows, with any player capable of stepping up on every given night.

"Everyone can step up sa team namin considering na nawala mga star players, yung mga veterans namin last season," Tan said.

"So 'yun 'yung nakikita kong strength kasi 'di malalaman (ng mga kalaban) kung sino 'yung mag-step up."

The Pirates have lost former starters Chris Cayabyab, Rich Guevarra, Jhygruz Laude and Gian Mallari, leaving Shane Ko and Andre Mendoza as the senior holdovers in a team hoping to improve on its 3-15 (win-loss) record from last season.
