Lyceum Pirates finally win after three defeats

Pirates finally score first victory of NCAA season, at expense of Generals

LYCEUM of the Philippines finally scored a win after three losses, downing Emilio Aguinaldo College, 83-81, in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in Sam Juan.

Mark Francisco hit two pressure-packed free throws with 3.2 seconds left, his only baskets in the game, to help lift the Pirates, who earlier lost to College of St. Benilde, Perpetual Help and San Beda.

Francisco earned the two shots from the charity line when he grabbed a rebound off a miss by Chris Cayabyab then drew a foul on the Generals’ Cameroonian reinforcement Cedric Noube Happi.

EAC, which bowed to Jose Rizal University on Thursday, slipped to a 1-2 win-loss record.

Floricel Guevarra led the Pirates with 22 points, Christopher Cayabyab had 19 and Shane Ko added 10.

The Generals were led by Happi’s 22 points, Jan Jamon scored 14, Russell Yaya chipped in with 11 and John Tayongtong had 10.
