LUISA San Juan set a new UAAP record for most threes in a women’s game as her hot hands delivered La Salle an 89-65 conquest of Far Eastern University on Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gilas Pilipinas Women 3x3 member drained 10 threes for 34 big points that earned the Lady Archers their first win in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament.
“I got my confidence from my teammates and my coaches. They believed in me and the trust that they give me, ‘yun ang pinakamalaking bagay for me,” said San Juan, who also grabbed six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
The Fil-British guard erased the previous record of eight triples in one game previously set by Khate Castillo, also of La Salle, back in 2017.
It also put her on level with University of the East’s Allan Caidic in 1985 and National University’s Jeff Napa in 2002, as the two legends hold the mark for most threes in a men’s game.

“I’m grateful. I’m not expecting that. I just do my role and I think it starts with kung ano pinapagawa sa amin ni coach Cholo [Villanueva],” said San Juan, who connived with her teammates for an 18-2 finishing kick to secure La Salle’s breakthrough win after losing its first four games.
“It’s a good win for us. The grit that I wanted to see from the girls, they showed it today,” said Villanueva.
Down low, that grit was put on full display by Patricia Mendoza who tallied 16 points and 15 rebounds and Kyla Sunga who nabbed a double-double of her own with 14 points and 15 boards.
The Lady Tamaraws leaned on MJ Manguiat’s 19 points as they fell to a 1-4 card.
No-loss NU
In the second game, NU sent Adamson crashing back to earth with a 74-52 rout.
Angel Surada powered the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points and six rebounds, Princess Fabruada got 12 points and four boards, and Tin Cayabyab had 11 points and four rebounds to remain undefeated in five games.

National U once again clamped down on defense to break the game wide open in the third quarter, holding the Lady Falcons to just eight in the frame en route to the double-digit victory.
Victoria Adeshina topped Adamson with 21 points and 12 rebounds, as Elaine Etang and Cris Padilla both had 10 in their second loss out of five games.
