LOUIE Alas sat at ringside near center court for the opening day of NCAA Season 92 on Saturday, seeing two teams close to his heart.

On one side was Letran, the team he coached for 14 years. On the other was San Beda with his son Kenneth in its lineup, ready to make his debut for the Red Lions this season.

Alas was poker-faced, though, for the entire game as he admitted he had no plan to cheer for either side while watching San Beda and Letran collide in the NCAA season opener at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“Hindi naman,” said Alas, when asked by SPIN.ph if it felt awkward on the sidelines.

"Kanina, tame lang ako. Hindi ako nagchi-cheer," Alas added. "I’m for Letran, but being a father, siyempre kay Kenneth ako."

The younger Alas had a quiet debut in the NCAA seniors level, playing limited minutes and finishing with a rebound and a block.

The Alaska assistant coach, though, has been preaching patience to his son as he wants him to play quality minutes for the Red Lions.

"Lagi kaming nag-uusap kasi gusto niya maglaro. Sabi ko sa kanya, darating ang oras mo. You just have to be ready every time. Don’t wait the game to come to you. Kunin mo kahit two minutes, three minutes, kunin mo ‘yung game. Tingnan mo kung saan ka makakatulong," Alas said.

Despite Letran’s loss, Alas remained impressed with what he saw from the defending champion Knights.

"Contender pa rin sila," said Alas.
