LETRAN eyes an outright twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four when it faces University of Perpetual Help in a frantic final day of NCAA Season 91 men’s basketball eliminations .
At 12-5 (win-loss), the Knights can avoid any more complication and seal their place in the crossover semifinals if they get past the Altas in their 4 p.m. encounter at The Arena in San Juan.
A loss could be costly as the Knights could end up in a five-way tie for second place depending on the results of the day’s other games pitting Jose Rizal University against San Sebastian at 12 noon, and Mapua opposite Emilio Aguinaldo at 2 p.m.
Wins by JRU, Mapua, and Perpetual Help will forge a five-way tie with Letran and Arellano at 12-6.
But matters could turn worse for the Knights should they lose by lopsided manner as the league will implement the stepladder phase to break ties and determine the seedings in the Final Four.
The easier way out for Letran is to win over Perpetual Help, which will also assure the Knights of a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis. They likewise take on defending champion San Beda in a playoff to determine the top seed in the playoffs.
The Knights are coming off a loss to the Red Lions that dropped them to second place.
Still, Letran coach Aldin Ayo remains confident about his team’s chances especially after the Knights were able to mount a comeback from 18-points down against the Lions before falling short in the end, 77-73, last Tuesday.
“I’m very proud of my players. We were down 18 points pero hindi sila nag-give-up,” Ayo said.
As for the game against the Altas, Ayo said, “Pipigain talaga namin. We will give everything we’ve got.”
Mapua, JRU, and Perpetual Help are trying to win their final game of the elims as a loss could mean outright elimination depending on the results of the other games.
