LETRAN seeks to catch up with University of Perpetual Help on top of the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball tournament as it goes up against San Sebastian on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Knights play the Stags at 4 p.m. and will be looking for a win to tie the league leader heading to their highly-anticipated showdown on Thursday.
But the Intramuros-based school (3-0) is certainly not looking past the Stags, owner of a 1-2 record.
So wary the Knights are about their old rivals, Letran rookie coach Aldin Ayo vowed to pull off some surprises against the Stags.
“Sa Sorsogon, may kasabihan na ‘malipat sa dagat’ na ang ibig sabihin ay misdirection. We want our opponents to keep on guessing. ‘Yun ang laro namin,” said Ayo.
At the same time, Ayo said the Knights will continue to press against the Stags.
“But there is something in our press that other teams don’t have. Credit that to (consultants) coach Glen Capacio and coach Louie Gonzales. Meron kaming secret recipe,” he said.
In the first game, five-time champion San Beda goes up against Lyceum at 2 p.m.
The Red Lions are out to bounce back from their 93-80 loss to the Knights last week although they will have to do it without top point guard Baser Amer, who is sidelined due to a dislocated right shoulder.
The Pirates will be coming to their meeting against the Red Lions still fresh from their first win of the season, 72-69, against St. Benilde.
