THE debacle of last year’s NCAA men’s Final is the one thing that motivates rookie Rey Nambatac to win it all for Letran this year.
While not yet a part of the team last year, the former junior standout said he felt for the entire Knights last season when they lost to reigning champion San Beda in the deciding game of the best-of-three title series.
“Ayaw ko na maulit 'yun,” he said. “Syempre masakit 'yung nangyari kahit na wala pa ako (sa seniors team) last year, ramdam din namin na mga nanonood, 'yung mga alumni, kung gaano ka-heartbreaking yung (talo) last year.”
And now that Letran again managed to extend its championship series against San Beda to a deciding Game 3 set Saturday, Nambatac vowed to give it a best shot.
“Oo (motivated ako) kasi hindi namin alam kung kelan ulit kami magpa-Finals,” said the freshman from Cagayan de Oro City. “Sabi nga ni coach (Caloy Garcia), sa Saturday gawin na natin 'yung best natin. Everytime na nasa loob kayo ng court ibigay niyo 100 percent niyo para makatulong sa team kung gusto man namin mag-champion.”
Playing in his first NCAA title series, Nambatac said he’s very much motivated not to let the Letranites down.
“Gagawin kong motivation 'yun (last year) kasi ayaw ko na mangyari sa akin 'yun,” he said. “Nanonood pa nga lang ako masakit na nga, lalo na kung naglalaro ako siguro times two na 'yun (sakit) so di ko na hahayaan pa.”
