LETRAN will try to stay unbeaten on Friday without Aldin Ayo as the rookie head coach has been slapped a one-game suspension by the NCAA for his actions in the Knights' previous game against Lyceum.

Ayo was suspended by NCAA commissioner Arturo ‘Bai’ Cristobal for “conduct unbecoming and disrespect of the game” after he threw a chair at the passage way leading to the dugout during the Knights match against the Pirates.

Letran won the game over Lyceum, 83-78, but Ayo didn't escape sanctions from the NCAA Commissioner's Office.

Also slapped a one-game suspension was Mapua coach Atoy Co, who took off his shirt in frustration over the referees' calls in the Cardinals' 109-95 win over the Pirates last July 31.

Ironically, Cristobal and Co were former teammates at legendary PBA team Crispa.

With the decision, Ayo will not be on the Letran bench when the Knights go for their eighth win against Emilio Aguinaldo College on Friday.

Cristobal said Ayo was already given a warning by the NCAA Commissioner’s Office when he gave the eyeglass of one of his assistants to a referee in protest of a call against San Sebastian.

Ayo threw the chair in exasperation after referees slapped a fifth foul on Letran guard McJour Luib.

“May warning na siya. He was not thrown out but he was given a warning when they were playing San Sebastian. There was a technical foul there pero binigyan ko siya ng warning,” said Cristobal.

Cristobal explained Co’s one-game ban was automatic under league rules after the former PBA MVP incurred two technical fouls in the game against the Pirates.

Co committed the second technical foul when he took off his shirt and waved it in front of the Mapua bench in protest of the referees' calls.

“Meron tayong ground rule na two technical fouls, same with Fiba, automatic ejection and then ‘yung next scheduled game, suspension,” said Cristobal.

Cristobal, however, said Co was also given a warning that another similar infraction will merit another one-game suspension.

“I warned him sa ginawa niya when he took his shirt off. That’s another issue. Kapag nagkaroon ng same repetition, suspended uli,” said Cristobal.
