ALDIN Ayo is seeking a third term as councilor in Sorsogon City as he continues to coach the Letran Knights in the NCAA.
Ayo filed his certificate of candidacy right after the Knights played the San Beda Red Lions in a playoff for No. 2 seed last week.
The former Letran Knight is one of several public servants who are also coaching top-level basketball, the most notable among them Yeng Guiao of Rain or Shine who also Pampanga’s first district representative.
“Although minsan, nagkakaroon ng conflict, mahirap palagpasin ‘yung ganitong opportunity,” said Ayo, who makes it a point to go to Sorsogon at least thrice a month to attend to his duties as councilor.
“Kahit naman wala ako, ’yung committee na hawak ko, gumagalaw naman. Umaandar naman ‘yung committee na ’yun,” he said.
Ayo said one of his advocacies for the past two terms is to help the agriculture and the fishing sector in the city.
“Sa agriculture, may mga business ako na piggery. Namimigay kami ng purong lahi on my own kasi gusto kong umangat ’yung lahi ng backyard sa Sorsogon,” said Ayo.
Naturally, Ayo is also involved in the city’s sports programs and he conducts free basketball clinics for the barangays.
“’Yung mga barangay, walang mga venu kaya nag-coconduct kami for free. We are also using basketball as a tool to impart sa bata ng mga values development,” said Ayo.
