ELAINE Etang may have missed out on a Mythical Team nod, but she pushed Adamson upward in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball stepladder semifinals with a 59-53 overtime victory over Ateneo on Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Her big three to start the extra period triggered five straight for the Lady Falcons before sealing the game with two free throws with 3.1 seconds on the clock.
Etang finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, and three steals to lead Adamson in the knockout duel.
Cheska Apag also stepped up for the Lady Falcons with 10 points, none bigger than her baseline jumper that knotted the game at 49 with 5.5 seconds left in regulation, to go with 10 rebounds, including the offensive board that led to her split from the charity stripe with 7.9 to play.
Victoria Adeshina added 16 points and seven boards in the win.
Defending champion UST up next for Adamson
Now, Adamson braces for No. 2-seed and defending champion University of Santo Tomas, set this Wednesday, for the right to face top seed National University in the championship series.
It’s another bitter exit for back-to-back Season MVP Kacey dela Rosa who ended up with 19 points, 24 rebounds, and five blocks for Ateneo.
Mythical Team member Sarah Makanjuola also nabbed a double-double with 10 points and 23 boards, while Junize Calago also got 14 points and six rebounds in the defeat.
