NATIONAL University showed no mercy to University of the East with a 55-point decimation, 103-48, in the UAAP Season 87 women's basketball tournament Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Dedicating the game to those affected by Typhoon Kristine, it was the Lady Bulldogs who went on an onslaught, dominating in all fronts to remain undefeated in nine games and stay atop the standings.
"Thankfully, we weren't as affected. Hopefully, elected officials do what they can to help out. Hopefully, the country rises up again. We know we're a people who rise up from things like this all the time," said Camille Clarin.
National U wasted little time wresting control of the game, using a 32-8 start to spell disaster for the Lady Warriors, as it lorded in almost all categories: from offense where it shot 56-percent from the field and 40 from deep, as well as dishing out 30 assists, to defense where it crashed the boards, 48 to 24, while also coming away with 12 steals.
“We never look at any team in the UAAP kung ano standing nila, we always respect kung sino ang kalaban namin and we always put a premium to our preparation,” said NU head coach Aris Dimaunahan. “Part of the challenge sa team namin is how we start the game, and today, I thought that our starters responded very well to the challenge.”
Six players breached double-figures in scoring for the Lady Bulldogs led by Clarin’s 16 points on 2-of-3 shooting from deep.

Karl Ann Pingol and Princess Fabruada scored 12 apiece, while Gambian center Jainaba Konateh also had 12 to lead the bench mob which delivered 56 points – outscoring all of UE.
Jearzy Ganade was the lone bright spot for the Lady Warriors with 17 points, but she could not stop their five-game skid to fall to 1-8.
In the second game, Kaycee dela Rosa dropped 28 points to guide Ateneo to a 70-57 victory vs. La Salle.
The reigning Season MVP shot 10-of-21 from the field, to go with 16 rebounds and five steals to snap a three-game losing skid.
Rookie Kailah Oani also had her best game to date with 17 points and three assists, and Junize Calago had nine points, seven boards, and four boards to help the Blue Eagles rise to an even 5-5 record.
Luisa San Juan paced the Lady Archers (2-8) with 19 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the defeat.
