Letran’s 'Kevin' led the Knights to another victory last week.
But it wasn’t the 'Kevin' you have in mind.
With star guard Kevin Alas saddled by foul trouble in the third quarter, Kevin Racal rose to the occasion and lifted the Knights past powerhouse San Sebastian, 82-67, on Saturday night in a game that vaulted Letran back into the Final Four picture.
The 6-foot-1 small forward went 5-of-11 from the field and made all his eight charities to tally a season-high-tying 18 points, including 10 in the crucial third period where the Knights held the lead for good en route to their ninth victory in 15 games.
Racal’s performance not only overshadowed the anticipated matchup between two of the league’s most explosive players in Alas and the Stags’ Calvin Abueva, but enabled the underrated player to bag the ACCEL/3XVI NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week.
“Deserving siya,” Knights coach Louie Alas said on Tuesday of the sophomore forward, who was discovered in the Coca-Cola Hoopla tournament in 2010. “Grabe work ethic. How I wish na sana lahat ng player katulad niya attitude.”
Racal, who is averaging 10.3 points, seven rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, is the second straight Knight to win the citation after Alas shared it with Abueva two weeks ago.
