LETRAN rode on its hot shooting to beat University of Perpetual Help, 93-64, ousting the Altas from the Final Four race and claiming a twice-to-beat spot in the NCAA Season 91 men’s basketball tournament playoffs at The Arena in San Juan.
The Knights went into the game needing just a win to capture a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four to avoid a five-way tie that will pave the way for a lengthened stepladder phase to determine the seedings in the semifinals.
Letran did just that and took no chances, starting the game with a 12-0 run behind Mark Cruz which Perpetual Help never recovered from.
It was a sorry loss for the Altas, who suffered their third straight defeat and bowed out from the Final Four race.
Cruz had 15 of his 18 points in the first half and added eight assists. Kevin Racal added 15 points for the Knights, who bounced back in a big way from their loss to San Beda on Tuesday.
“’Yung sakit na naramdaman niyo, damdamin niyo ‘yan,” said Letran coach Aldin Ayo, recalling what he told his players following the San Beda loss. “Gusto ko pag-uwi natin, pumunta kayo sa quarters, damdamin niyo ‘yung talo.”
