KEVIN Racal put a fitting end to his college career, offering the NCAA championship to the Letran community which had endured a number of heartaches in the finals.
The hard-charging forward said he will move up to the PBA with a sense of fulfillment after finishing with 23 points, five rebounds and two assists in the Knights’ title-clinching 85-82 overtime victory over San Beda.
But more than the performance, Racal, who was picked in the first round of the PBA rookie draft by Alaska, said he was gladdened to end years of frustration for the Intramuros-based school.
“Siyempre masaya kasi naibalik ko ‘yung ginawa ng Letran para sa akin,” said Racal in a brief interview with Spin.ph after the win. “Naibalik ko sa kanila. Wala ng mas sasarap dito.”
Racal was also instrumental in Letran's victory in the opener of the best-of-three series, finishing with 28 points, five rebounds, five assists to lead the Knights to the 94-90 win.
Racal said he expected the Red Lions to fight to the very end.
“Alam ko ‘yung laro nila dahil matagal ko ng nakakalaban San Beda. Hindi sila papatigil hanggang hindi pa nagbu-buzzer. Pero noong sinabi ni coach (Aldin Ayo) 'nung overtime na ‘Sa atin pa rin ‘yan,’ kumpiyansa pa rin kami.”
