KENT Salado buried a go-ahead triple to send Arellano to an 89-84 win over San Sebastian on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Salado broke a 77-77 tie with a big three with 2:39 left helping the Chiefs secure their eighth win in 10 games for second place in the team standings.
Jio Jalalon came up with 33 points and 10 assists for Arellano. Jalalon kept the Chiefs in front with a string of triples in the fourth quarter before sitting on the bench for a moment after a hitting his head on the floor after a lay-up.
The Gilas cadet guard returned to finish the match as the Chiefs handed the Stags (1-9) their ninth straight defeat.
“Medyo overconfident. Galing kami sa 10-day break. Iba talaga ’yung game namin,” said Arellano coach Jerry Codinera.
Lervin Flores had 12 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks, while Salado finished with 11 for the Chiefs, who trailed, 9-16, at the end of the first period.
Ryan Costelo scored 24 points as he tried to carry the Stags, who were without head coach Egay Macaraya as he focused on CafeFrance’s semifinal match in the PBA D-League.
