JOYCE Francisco completed University of the East's fightback from 18-points down as her game-winning triple stunned University of Sto. Tomas, 66-64, on Tuesday in the UAAP Season 81 women's basketball tournament at Blue Eagle Gym.
The pint-sized guard caught the ball from Tin Cortizano and buried the big triple from the top of the arc with 1.8 seconds to spare as the Lady Warriors fought back from a 39-21 deficit in the second quarter.
Francisco finished with 17 points, going 3-of-5 from deep, alongside seven rebounds and two assists as UE snapped its four-game losing run and improved to 3-10.
Anna Requiron also gathered a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds on top of four blocks and two assists as Tin Cortizano chipped in 14 points, eight boards and two assists.
Grace Irebu put the Tigresses up by six, 64-58 in the last 1:55, but the Lady Warriors refused to go down, slicing the lead down to one, 64-63 with a Francisco split with 48 seconds to play.
UST had numerous chances to put the game away but Jastine Capilit, Sai Larosa and Irebu flubbed their shots, giving UE the chance it needed in the final 10 seconds.
Reynalyn Ferrer's hot start fell flat in the clutch as she wound up with 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Tigresses.
Irebu got 14 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, while Capilit got 10.
UST's Final Four chances took a big hit as it dropped to fifth place at 7-6 card, a full game behind third-ranked La Salle and Adamson.
