COLLEGE of Saint Benilde won its first game in the NCAA Season 91 men’s basketball tournament, downing Emilio Aguinaldo College, 73-66, on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Jonathan Grey had 19 points, Travis Jonson added 18 while Bong Saavedra scored 14, the three combining for 10 triples as the Blazers improved their win-loss record to 1-2.
CSB coach Gabby Velasco was happy to have finally won for the Blazers after bowing to top squads Letran and University of Perpetual Help.
“I was so worried because we lost our first two games. I don’t want my boys to lose an ounce of confidence,” said Velasco.
Christ Mejos had 17 points while Sidney Onwubere and Laminou Hamadou had 14 points each for the Generals, who remained winless in two matches.
EAC played without Francis Munsayac, who was slapped with a one-game suspension after being ejected from the game against San Beda last week.
