ARELLANO may be lurking in an unfamiliar territory in the NCAA men’s Finals against four-time defending champion San Beda.
But for veteran John Pinto that’s no excuse for the Chiefs not to give the Red Lions a good fight especially following their 74-66 loss in Game One of the best-of-three series on Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Siguro first time namin sa Finals, samantalang sila ilang beses na andiyan. Kami kailangan pa namin mag-adjust,” he said
"Oo kailangan na magpaka-leader ako kasi ako na yung pinakamatanda dyan," he added.
Pinto admitted being left frustrated following his struggle from the field. The Arellano guard finished with just six points in 21 minutes of play and had a miserable 2-of-12 shooting, including zero from the rainbow country.
"Sobrang frustrated ako," Pinto admitted to Spin.ph .
"Ang dami kong tira na hindi naman pumasok, naka-four points lang ata ako. Nakaka-frustrate talaga," he continued while shaking his head.
Pinto said being the most senior in the team, it should be him who has to carry his teammates on his shoulder and not the other way around.
“Parang ganoon na rin, sinisisi ko rin ang sarili ko," he said. "Ako ang may pinaka maraming tira, may pinakaraming miss."
With only one day to prepare, Pinto had no more time to sour grape.
And he knows that the best way to do is to come out stronger and more focused in Game Two on Wednesday to extend the series and have a chance to win the school’s first title since joining the league in 2009.
"Sobrang mahalaga ang Game Two, kailangan namin manalo kasi kami gusto rin namin mag champion,"
"Pero kahit naman magsisi pa ako wala na rin naman magagawa 'yun," he said. "Life goes on babawi na lang ako."
