FORMER San Sebastian basketball star Ian Sangalang is eyeing a comeback with the Stags.
The NCAA Season 88 MVP had announced late last year that he will forego his final year of eligibility with the Stags largely due to the withdrawal of support of longtime team patron Dennis Pineda, who also acts as Sangalang’s manager.
But in a sudden change of heart, the 6-7 slotman from Pampanga confirmed to Spin.ph on Wednesday that there are ongoing negotiations for his return to the Recto-based squad, now coached by Topex Robinson.
“Not sure pa … but there’s a chance,” Sangalang said on Wednesday. “I realized na gusto ko pa maglaro kasi wala naman akong liga iba kesa yung college basketball eh.”
Sangalang last played in the PBA D-League for the Pineda-owned EA Regen, which was eliminated in the quarterfinal stage by Boracay Rum.
The 6-7 center said he is in the process of “fixing up” matters and he’ll know within the week if his comeback will materialize.
His return will come us a big boost for the Stags, who have lost former league MVP Calvin Abueva and Ronald Pascual as well as several key players in Pineda's stable after the falling-out at the end of the season.
