High-scoring Josan Nimes mysteriously left out of Mapua lineup for second straight season

Jun 16, 2014
Josan Nimes averaged a team-high 20.8 points in a preseason tournament and now the Cardinals hope somebody steps up to fill the gap.

JOSAN Nimes came up with fine performances in the preseason tournament, even earning praise from Mapua coach Atoy Co. It turns out he won’t even be suiting for the Cardinals in the NCAA this season.

His name is not in the Cardinals’ 16-man lineup for Season 90 and Co, who had spoken about the development of the Cardinals swingman during the preseason, has little to say this time.

“We were excited really because Josan Nimes was supposed to play but unluckily, something happened two weeks ago,” said Co on Monday in the league’s official press conference at MOA Arena.

Now for the second straight year, Nimes is sitting out.

A source told Spin.ph Nimes was hurt during a tune-up game a few weeks back although it was not clear whether it was a season-ending injury.

When Spin.ph asked again about Nimes' status after the press conference, Co said: “Hindi pumasa.”

When asked to confirm if Nimes got injured, the PBA legend refused to speak.

Co had been looking forward to Nimes finally suiting up for the Cardinals this season, even saying that the high-scoring forward was starting to embrace his system.

Nimes’ absence is big blow to the Cardinals’ campaign after he averaged a team-high 20.8 points in the preseason.

The former Rookie of the Year already missed the entire season in 2013 and the Cardinals finished in last place with a 2-16 win-loss slate.
