ROBERT Bolick missed out on the Rookie-MVP award, but it sure didn’t look that way on Thursday.
La Salle Greenhills’ freshman shooting guard outshone Letran’s John Quinto—who won the rare twin awards this season—to power the Greenies to a 75-70 win over the Knights in the NCAA juniors’ basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Bolick delivered in the clutch and scored five of the Greenies’ last six points to lead his team to the play-off victory that clinched the third seed in the postseason opposite twice-to-beat San Sebastian.
Bolick finished with 34 points with five threes, including six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Quinto still came up with huge numbers, scoring 23 points, pulling down 14 boards, and issuing two assists, but fell short of leading the Knights to the win.
Letran faces top-seeded San Beda in the Final Four on Saturday.
The Knights actually shot better from the field, 46 percent compared to the Greenies’ 39 percent, but they could not make the shots that mattered most.
