UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas’ Grace Irebu was formally named UAAP Season 81 women's basketball Most Valuable Player on Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Congolese center last month became the first Tigress to win the plum since Marichu Bacaro claimed the award in 2008.
"I have so many emotions, but I’m so happy," said Irebu.
Irebu is also the first player outside of the dominant NU squad to win the MVP award since FEU's Camille Sambile in 2013.
UST teammate Sai Larosa, Adamson's Mar Prado, FEU's Clare Castro, and last season's MVP Jack Animam of NU joined Irebu in the Mythical Team.
Tigresses guard Tantoy Ferrer was hailed as the Rookie of the Year.
