    Red Cubs one win away from first-round sweep after downing Staglets in NCAA Juniors

    SAN Beda is one win away from a sweep of the first round after the Red Cubs defeated the San Sebastian Staglets, 85-60, on Tuesday in the 91st NCAA juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

    Germy Mahinay had 14 points and nine rebounds in only 12 minutes of play, while Pedro Alfaro had 11 points in 13 minutes as the Red Cubs recorded their eighth win in as many outings.

    The Red Cubs will cap the first round on Tuesday against Arellano, which is in third place with a 6-1 win-loss slate.

    Kobe Canoy had 18 points for the Staglets, who fell to 3-6.

    Lyceum, meanwhile, grabbed its sixth win, finishing the first round with a 79-76 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College.

    Generoso Cecilio had 19 points, while Makki Santos had 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Junior Pirates, who are in fourth place.

    Mau Cruz had 19 points while Ronald Baliquig and Kerby Dulatre had 18 points each for the Brigadiers, who dropped to 4-5.
