FAR Eastern University made it back-to-back wins, scoring a come-from-behind victory over Ateneo, 79-64, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 82 women's basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena.
Clare Castro unfurled 18 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, but it was Choy Bahuyan who made the difference for the Lady Tamaraws, leading the telling 21-2 third quarter spurt that swung the game from a 45-38 deficit to a 59-47 advantage to end the period.
The lead ballooned to as high as 28, 78-50, with Bahuyan's layup in the final 3:10 as she finished the game with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
"Masyadong delayed ang players namin," said coach Bert Flores. "Nag-adjust kami at kami naman ang nag-dominate sa kanila. Binaliktad namin, kami naman ang pumressure nung second half."
Fatima Quiapo added 10 points and four boards, while Valerie Mamaril had 10 points and two rebounds for FEU, which rose to a 2-1 record.
Joanne Nimes led Ateneo (2-2) with 15 points and three rebounds, while Jhaz Joson and Hazelle Yam scored 10 points apiece in the defeat.
In the first game, La Salle dealt University of the East a 91-58 rout behind another superb showing from rookie Kent Pastrana.
The rookie out of Silay City unloaded 20 points, three rebounds and three assists to help the Lady Archers snap a two-game losing run to rise to an even 2-2.
Fellow rookie Vea Malarde added 15 points and three assists, as sophomore Angel Quingco tallied 14 points, seven boards and two blocks.
"We had a good start and the good thing is our rookies have confidence to play defense and get their rhythm," said coach Cholo Villanueva.
La Salle was quick to seize control of the game, taking the 26-16 first quarter lead before slowly pounding on UE. By the fourth quarter, the lead swelled to as much as 35, before the match ended at a 33-point spread.
Bennette Revillosa also notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Lady Archers shot at a 43-percent clip from the field.
Tin Cortizano paced the still winless UE (0-4) with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists, as Princess Pedregosa got 13 points and 18 boards.
