ARELLANO gained a share of second place in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball after an 89-69 decision over Jose Rizal University on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Chiefs pocketed their seventh win in nine outings to join Perpetual Help for the second spot in the team standings, while the Heavy Bombers dropped to 3-5 to fall to seventh place.

Jio Jalalon dominated the game, finishing with 23 points and seven assists for the Chiefs in the wire-to-wire victory.

Arellano coach Jerry Codinera emphasized defense in the win as the Chiefs limited Teytey Teodoro and Paolo Pontejos to only four points each.

“Maganda ‘yung defensive adjustment namin kay Pontejos and Teodoro. Sabi namin, i-limit sila sa touches. They are capable of scoring 20 points kaya very unpredictable sila,” said Codinera.

Kent Salado had 13 points, while Lervin Flores added 12 points and eight rebounds for Arellano.

The Heavy Bombers couldn’t overcome the Chiefs, who were in command, 47-27, at halftime.
