EAC Generals pull off NCAA coup with stunning upset of fancied Knights

    Aug 7, 2015

EMILIO Aguinaldo College pulled off a shocker as it handed Letran its first loss, 83-69, in NCAA Season 91 on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.

Cameroonian import Laminou Hamadou had 20 points and 24 rebounds, while Jorem Morada had 12 of his 18 points in the final quarter to help the Generals win their second straight game after starting the season with a 0-5 record.

The win is a big one though as the Knights, the surprise team of the season, are off to a hot start by winning all their first seven outings.

“I told them yesterday na if we play doubly hard, we will not beat Letran. Make it triple hard para makita nila ‘yung character ng team na ‘to,” said EAC coach Andy De Guzman.

“I’m very happy. The credit goes to everybody,” De Guzman added.

EAC led by as many as 13 points, with Morada basically sealing the win after completing a rare four-point play with three minutes left in the game and the Generals up, 73-60.

Kevin Racal had 18 points and six rebounds for the Knights, who lost the game without suspended head coach Aldin Ayo.

The rookie mentor was serving his one-game suspension meted by the NCAA for throwing a chair at the venue passage way during the team’s last outing against Lyceum.

Sidney Onwubere also had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Generals, who will look to slay another giant in Perpetual Help in their next outing next week.

From a slim 18-13 lead, EAC appeared ready to crumble after trailing 28-36.
