DEXTER Zamora didn’t get to help Lyceum in the final stretch against Emilio Aguinaldo College but refused to put the blame on the Generals’ John Tayongtong for his awkward landing that led to a sprained ankle.
Zamora winced in pain as he stepped on the Tayongtong’s foot following a jumper midway through the fourth quarter midway through the fourth and was never able to return on Friday in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
“Medyo masama talaga yung bagsak ko kaya hindi ko mailakad.
But Zamora believes Tayongtong did not position his foot intentionally.
“Siya na nakakaalam nun. Pero tingin ko hindi naman kasi magkaibigan naman kami ’nun,” said the Bukidnon native.
Fortunately, the Pirates held on for a 91-75 victory that snapped a four-game losing streak and kept them in the Final Four hunt.
Zamora was asked by a Lyceum official if he wanted to have the team coaster come around the back for his convenience.
But the Pirates star politely declined, saying he would rather walk toward the coaster in the front of the venue.
“Huwag na. Nakakahiya eh,” Zamora said.
“Masaya kami. Sana ma-straight namin yung last four games namin. Baka makapasok pa,” he said as the Pirates remained in seventh spot with a 6-8 win-loss card.
