SAN Beda shook off a sloppy start, shifted into high gear in the second half and cruised to a 78-63 victory over Perpetual Help on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena to book a return trip to the NCAA finals.
Davon Potts made the key baskets in the fourth period and scored 16 points for the Red Lions, who will face Arellano in the finals. He also had three rebounds, and three assists.
Robert Bolick added 14 markers, while Javee Mocon had a double-double outing of 12 markers and 15 rebounds for the Red Lions, who clawed back from nine points down in the second quarter and seized control in the second half.
"We wanted to get into the finals earlier e. At least you get a chance to rest," said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
The Lions will have only one day off before Game One of the best-of-three at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
"Of course we have to give credit to Perpetual, I'd like to congratulate the entire Perpetual team. They were one win away from making it to the finals," Jarin added.
The Red Lions asserted their might and turned a 37-30 halftime lead into a comfortable 56-44 cushion heading into the final period.
Potts kept San Beda's engine humming, delivering the big blows in the fourth quarter including a jumper with 5:13 remaining that gave San Beda a 68-52 buffer.
The Altas looked set to make a run and made it 57-70 on Gab Dagangon's three-pointer with 3:40 remaining, but the Red Lions were simply relentless and continued to pounce on them the rest of the way.
Dagangon finished with 16 points while Bright Akhuetie was held to a measly eight points and 10 rebounds.
