PERPETUAL Help ended Arellano’s seven-game winning streak, pulling off a 76-62 victory on Thursday in the NCAA Season 92 basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Altas gained a share of second spot with the Chiefs with a 10-3 record behind league-leading San Beda.
Daryl Singontiko led the Altas with 13 points and eight rebounds, hitting key baskets in the fourth to keep the Chiefs at bay.
Gab Dagangon led Perpetual Help in scoring with 22 as Bright Akhuetie had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Altas.
Altas coach Jimwell Gican said against teams such as the Chiefs, the key to victory is a well thought-out strategy.
“Talagang nagsunog kami ng kilay dun para manalo. Trabaho lang naman, maganda ’yung naging outcome. Nagbunga ’yung matagal na preparation namin,” said Gican.
Kent Salado scored 22 points and Jio Jalalon had 19 points for the Chiefs, who had a flat start and were outscored 18-7 in the first period.
It was Arellano’s lowest scoring output this season and first defeat since a 15-point loss to San Beda in July.
