    Cubs, Staglets set up title showdown

    THREE-time defending champion San Beda withstood Letran’s late rally to score a 58-55 victory on Saturday in the Final Four of the NCAA juniors’ basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

    The Red Cubs squandered double-digit lead entering the fourth quarter but held on with the leadership of big man Arvin Tolentino as they clinched the first Finals berth, moving the team to just two wins from copping a fourth straight title.

    Tolentino, a national youth team member, registered a double-double of 19 points and 16 boards to lead the Lions.

    Second seed San Sebastian edged La Salle Greenhills, 58-55, to clinch the second Finals berth.

    The Staglets came up with just five points and trailed by nine at the end of the first quarter, but went to work from then on to beat the Greenies.

    Michael Calisaan pumped in 23 points, 19 rebounds, and two blocks to pace the Staglets.
