JOSE Rizal University has decided to withdraw from playing in two summer tournaments in the wake of the death of junior player Carl Jimwell ‘CJ’ Servillon on Sunday.
Officials of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup confirmed to Spin.ph the Light Bombers will no longer continue with their campaign in the preseason tournament.
The school still has one game left against San Beda, a no-bearing one as both teams are already out of playoffs contention.
The Light Bombers have also withdrawn from the Pilipinas Chinese Association Basketball League (PCABL), according to tournament officials, although Servillon is not part of the team’s line-up in the summer meet.
Prior to its decision to pull out the team, JRU remains in contention for the No. 4 spot in Group B for a chance of making the quarterfinals.
Servillon collapsed during the Light Bombers’ game in the Filoil tournament last Friday against La Salle-Zobel before passing away two days later. He was only 17 years old.
