    CJ Isit takes charge in OT as Mapua Cardinals end long run of futility against San Beda Red Lions

    CJ ISIT took over in overtime as Mapua downed San Beda, 101-97, on Thursday in the NCAA Season 92 basketball tournament.

    The Cardinals posted their eighth win in 13 outings to boost their Final Four bid, while the Red Lions stayed on top of the standings after absorbing only their third loss in 14 games.

    It was also Mapua’s first win against San Beda in three years.

    Isit scored eight of his 15 points in the extra period, including triple with 2:08 left to give Mapua a 94-90 lead. He also hit two free throws for a 97-94 Mapua lead with 40.1 seconds left.

    The Cardinals went on a 7-0 run capped by two free throws by Darrel Menina to take an 87-84 lead. Arnaud Noah, however, extended the game for San Beda, hitting a triple with 6.5 seconds to play in regulation.

    Mapua’s Joseph Eriobu scored 10 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter. Allwell Oraeme had 12 points, 24 rebounds, and two blocks, while Menina wound up with 14 points for the Cardinals.

    Javee Mocon scored 19 points while Robert Bolick had 18 points for the Red Lions, who also got 15 points from Davon Potts but only one in the extra period.

    San Beda is now just a half-game ahead of Perpetual Help and Arellano (10-3), with Mapua in fourth.
