ORGANIZERS of the Filoil preseason tournament said they will extend assistance to the family of the late Jose Rizal University high school player who died after collapsing in one of their games.

According to a tournament official who asked not to be named for the time being, the league bigwigs have already contacted JRU officials to ask how they can help the grieving family of Carl Jimwell 'CJ' Servillon.

“We already spoke to Paul Supan (JRU athletic director) to ask what way we can extend assistance to the family,” said the official on Monday.

Servillon died on Sunday, two days after collapsing during a preseason game against De La Salle-Zobel. It was actually the second time he collapsed in a game, the first incident happening weeks before near his home in Mandaluyong City.

    He was 17.

In an interview with Spin.ph, Servillon’s grandfather Severo Sr. felt there was negligence on the part of the organizers, claiming that necessary emergency medical services was not available when the incident happened.

The Filoil official said it will investigate the elder Servillon’s claim but assured that an ambulance is always on standby at the venue in all the games including that match that involved JRU and De La Salle-Zobel.

“We will investigate that,” said the official, referring to the statements made by Servillon's family. “Nandoon naman ‘yung ambulance lagi sa harap ng arena together with the whole crew just in case.”
