Focus will be on Nigerian imports Bright Akhuetie, Allwell Oraeme as Altas and Cardinals collide

    Jul 6, 2015

TWO of the top reinforcements of NCAA Season 91 collide on Tuesday as the Bright Akhuetie-led Perpetual Help Altas take on Allwell Oraeme and the Mapua Cardinals at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Altas are eyeing their third win in as many games and the solo lead, while the Cardinals are looking to improve their 1-1 slate.

“It’s going to be fun to watch,” said Mapua star Josan Nimes.

Akhuetie put up one of the most dominating performances in the NCAA on Friday after coming up with 44 points and 19 rebounds for the Altas in a 77-69 win over College of Saint Benilde.

Akhuetie will be joined by fellow Nigerian Prince Eze, returning from a one-game suspension following a respectable effort of 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Altas’ opener against Lyceum.

Oraeme, also a Nigerian, dished out a fine effort in his recent outing, finishing with 15 points, 22 rebounds, and five blocks in Mapua’s 88-86 win over San Sebastian on Thursday.

“Both of their imports (Akhuetie and Eze) are beasts but we have a beast of our own,” Nimes said.

Akhuetie and Oraeme, however, downplayed their match-up, saying that they are focused on winning the game.

“It’s really a tough game but I’m ready for it,” said Oraeme.

Akhuetie said: “We will still come out and play. It’s still basketball. Mapua is also excited to play any game.”

Winless teams CSB and Emilio Aguinaldo College clash at 2 p.m.

St. Benilde lost its first two games, including that against the Altas in Akhuetie’s career game while the Generals bowed to reigning five-time champion San Beda in their opener.
