SAN Sebastian pulled the rug from under erstwhile league-leader San Beda, 98-92, on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 91 men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Bradwyn Guinto had 26 points, while Jamil Ortouste had eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter for the Stags, who improved their win-loss record to 5-10 as they continue to fight hard despite already being out of semifinal contention.
The loss sent San Beda tumbling to a three-way tie for first place with Letran and Perpetual Help at 11-4 as the race to the Final Four continues to heat up.
Five players scored in double figures for San Sebastian, with Michael Calisaan registering 21, Jerick Fabian adding 16, and Allyn Bulanadi chipping in 10 points.
“Sabi ko nga, i-enjoy lang natin yung last five games namin. I don’t want to pressure them na talagang like before. I want them to just play our game,” said San Sebastian rookie coach Rodney Santos.
The Stags made it a 91-83 game on a lay-up by Ortouste with 2:26 left in the fourth quarter to seal the win, ending a five-game skid against the Red Lions.
San Sebastian, which has also defeated Letran this season, has made it two wins in a row after being booted out of Final Four contention.
Art de la Cruz had 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Red Lions, while Ola Adeogun added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
