Former NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez rejoins San Beda Red Lions as head coach

    Dec 19, 2016
Back-to-back champion from 2013, Boyet Fernandez takes charge of the Red Lions program anew.

TWO-time NCAA champion coach Boyet Fernandez is set to rejoin the San Beda Red Lions.

San Beda team manager Jude Roque confirmed the appointment of Fernandez, replacing Jamike Jarin, who has accepted a coaching job at National University.

“After consulting with the school president, MVP confirmed last night the appointment of Boyet Fernandez as new Red Lions head coach. I got the call from MVP late last night,” said Roque.

Fernandez led the Red Lions to two straight titles from 2013 before accepting a coaching job at NLEX in the PBA.

Fernandez was left without a head coaching job after Yeng Guiao was hired to take over the club, but Jarin’s departure cleared the way for the NCAA champion coach to return to the Red Lions.

Roque also described the re-hiring of Fernandez as a “logical choice” as he will also handle the Red Lions in the PBA D-League.

“It’s also a logical choice especially with the newly formed Cignal-San Beda D-League team, which Boyet will also handle,” said Roque.
