STA. CRUZ, Laguna - Carlo Lastimosa led College of St. Benilde past Arellano University in overtime, 80-73, in the main match of the NCAA men's basketball tournament road games Wednesday at the Laguna Sports Complex here.
Lastimosa scored six of his team's 13 points in the extra period, where the Blazers went on an 8-2 run to break free for good, 77-71, with 49.8 seconds left.
Lastimosa finished with a team-high 17 markers.
"It was an ugly win, but I'll take it anyway," said St. Benilde coach Richard del Rosario, who missed Game Two of the PBA Governors Cup Finals where he acts as assistant to B-Meg coach Tim Cone.
"Di na ako makakahabol sa B-Meg," he said of his original plan. "But it was worth it. We won here in the NCAA. Sana sa B-meg din manalo."
Regulation ended at 67-all after Vergel Zulueta buried a huge three-point shot in the final seconds.
Juan Paolo Taha and Joseph Tolentino added 12 and 10 markers respectively for the Blazers, who improved to 3-4 overall as they snapped a two-game losing skid.
Levi Hernandez and Rocky Acidre had 13 points a piece for Arellano, which fell to a 2-4 (win-loss) card.
