Baser Amer accepts the blame for Red Lions' meltdown against CSB Blazers

SAN Beda star Baser Amer takes part of the blame for the Red Lions’ 76-83 loss to College of St. Benilde in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Monday at The Arena in San Juan.

The Red Lions lost for the first time in six games at the hands of the resurgent Blazers and Amer felt he didn’t sufficiently fulfill his role of leader especially down the stretch.

“As the leader and point guard of the Red Lions, part of the blame is on me because it’s my job to control the tempo of the game and my teammates when we were in disarray,” the pride of Davao told Spin.ph.

Amer registered decent numbers: 18 points, although he took 18 shots to get to his output, to go with seven assists, two boards, and one steal.

But the usually unflappable playmaker committed four turnovers, including some in the endgame he felt were uncharacteristic.

“I had some turnovers that I know I could’ve been avoided.”

One error occurred inside the last three minutes when he drove from the left wing only to get the leather stolen by RJ Argamino, who found Mark Romero for a breakaway layup that sparked an 8-0 run, which took the fight out of the Red Lions.

Still, Amer remains confident the defending champions will get back on track.

“We will take this loss and learn from it.”
