ACE point guard Baser Amer finally showed up for San Beda Thursday in its game against Jose Rizal University after a seven-week absence in the NCAA.
Although Amer failed to score, he did finish with four rebounds and five assists in 22 minutes of play and his mere presence was enough for the Red Lions to get past the Heavy Bombers, 83-75.
The pride of Davao who was picked seventh overall by Meralco in the last PBA draft sat out several games of the reigning champions after suffering a left shoulder injury during the team’s first round match against rival Letran, which the Lions lost, 80-93.
For Red Lions coach Jamike Jarin and team captain Art dela Cruz, Amer was a big help against the Heavy Bombers despite him ending up scoreless.
“It’s really big,” said Jarin. “His leadership, his demeanor, and his winning attitude, you can’t coach those.”
San Beda seized the top spot following the win with an 11-2 record.
