Mapua raced off to a scintillating start in NCAA Season 92 but Cardinals coach Atoy Co was far from satisfied, especially with how his team fared against Benilde on Tuesday.
Co specifically cited his team’s complacency in the first two quarters, which almost cost them the game against the Blazers.
“Too confident. In the first two quarters, mas aggressive ang Benilde sa mga players ko,” Co said.
“Ang hirap mag-coach ng ganun. Masyadong kumpyansa. As a coach, as much as possible gusto mo tambak para wala ka na inaalala sa fourth quarter,” he added.
Nonetheless, the PBA legend was thankful for the strong start, a rarity for a team that had been one of the league's cellardwellers for some time. But he asserted that there's much work that needs to be done for them to sustain their streak, and they will be going hard at it with the long break.
“Actually I’m expecting this (2-0 start). Sabi ko hindi pwedeng pakawalan itong chance kasi bihirang mangyayari sa Mapua yung maka 2-0,” he said.
Aside from playing tuneup games against the other teams during the break to give way to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament from July 5 to 10, Mapua will test their mettle against the PBA's Mahindra Enforcers on Thursday according to Co.
