MAPUA coach Atoy Co on Tuesday fired back at Boyet Fernandez, saying the remarks made by the San Beda Red Lions coach accusing the Cardinals of deliberately trying to hurt his players were “unprofessional.”
“I’m saddened by the accusation of coach Boyet,” the PBA legend told Spin.ph. “As God is my witness, I did not instruct any of my players to intentionally hit any San Beda player, or any opponent for that matter, in our previous games.”
“Coach Boyet’s accusation is very unprofessional,” Co added.
The highly physical match saw four unsportsmanlike fouls called, including three, ironically, on the Lions.
San Beda starting center Kyle Pascual picked up two of those calls, with the second infraction on Mapua counterpart Jeson Cantos in the third quarter leading to his ejection.
Lions import Ola Adeogun and Cardinals big man Jessie Saitanan were also called for double unsportsmanlike fouls due to second motion in the same period.
