NCAA commissioner Arturo ‘Bai’ Cristobal is recommending the forfeiture of College of Saint Benilde’s victory over Letran on Tuesday in the NCAA juniors competition after the Junior Blazers utilized an incorrect set of uniform.
Cristobal said the Junior Blazers violated the NCAA house rules on incorrect use of uniforms, stating that only jersey numbers 4 to 19 will be used during league games.
“As far as I’m concerned, babagsak ‘yun sa using of the wrong uniform,” Cristobal told reporters on Tuesday when asked about the issue.
With the Commissioner’s Office only a recommendatory body, the NCAA Management Committee (Mancome) will make the final decision expected to be handed out as early as Wednesday.
“Ang recommendation ko is if any player who use the wrong uniform, forfeiture ang sanction,” he added.
During CSB’s victory over Letran, three players from the Junior Blazers wore numbers 20, 27, and 28. The one who wore No. 28, Alain Madrigal, even started the game.
CSB won, 88-49.
A new Fiba rule was imposed right after the 2014 World Cup stating that jersey numbers 00 to 99 can now be used by any player as seen during 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore recently.
However, the NCAA says its house rules will stand over international federation rules.
CSB is expected to appeal the issue.
