PRO-bound Art de la Cruz scored a career-high 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead an Ola Adeogun-less San Beda to a 96-84 win over lowly Emilio Aguinaldo College on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The 6-foot-3 forward taken by Blackwater in the PBA draft on Sunday also had five assists and four steals the Red Lions scored their eighth win in 10 outings.
Adeogun was serving a one-game suspensionfor breaking the glass door at The Area in their game
against Arellano last week.
“First round is done. I told the boys before this game that if you are rookie this season, in the second round, you are not. Everybody had their minutes and moments. We should be playing at a different level,” said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
De la Cruz scored 22 points in the second and third periods as San Beda pulled away from EAC, 70-60, after trailing, 14-16, at the end of the first quarter.
AC Soberano had 20 points, going 4-for-10 from three-point range, while Roldan Sara added 14 points and seven assists for Red Lions.
Donald Tankoua had 11 points and 11 rebounds for San Beda, which also missed the services of Joe Presbitero, out with typhoid fever.
Francis Munsayac scored 20 points for the Generals, who dropped to 2-8.
