Frustration gets the better of 'Tatay Aric' after Altas let Chiefs go away with the win

    Sep 4, 2015

PERPETUAL Help coach Aric del Rosario was left to rue after the Altas lost to Arellano Chiefs in overtime on Friday, 84-77, in the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan on Friday.

The veteran mentor was left alone in the team dugout after the match, trying to lift his spirit up following the sorry loss against a fellow contender team

    “Nakaka-frustrate,” del Rosario told

“Binibigyan mo na sila ng pagkakataon pero parang wala lang sa kanila, hindi nagde-deliver,” he added.

Down by five, 53-58, in the fourth period, pro-bound Scottie Thompson and Nigerian Prince Eze took charge for the Altas to give them the lead, 65-58, only for Arellano to retaliate behind a 10-3 run to force overtime, (68-all).

Perpetual Help though, was outscored in the extra period, 16-9, as Arellano ace point guard Jiovani Jalalon scored 11 consecutive points to clinch the win for the Chiefs.

“Hindi na dapat nag-overtime ‘yun eh. Wala eh, tapos noong over time parang tinamad na sila sa nangyari,” lamented the 75-year old coach.

Although Thompson registered his fifth triple-double of the season with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, del Rosario said basketball is still a team effort.

“Sabi ko kay Scott hindi pwede ikaw mag-isa ang magdadala, i-share mo (ang responsibility),” he said.

“Mag-distribute ka kasi pine-pwersa mo, tuloy kinakapos ka (sa dulo),” he added.

After Thompson, only Eze and Antonio Coronel finished in double figures of 19 and 16 markers, respectively, for the Altas, tied with the Chiefs for third spot at 8-4.

“Ang sabi ko sa kanila kayo ang nagpatalo sa sarili niyo, kailangan talaga magtulung-tulong.” said del Rosario.
