ARELLANO and Mapua gained a share of second place in the NCAA Season 91 juniors basketball tournament after beating separate rivals on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Braves defeated San Sebastian, 82-64, while the Red Robins downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 88-80, as both teams now carry identical 4-1 (win-loss) cards.
Arellano and Mapua though, remain behind undefeated leader San Beda (5-0).
Guilmer Dela Torre had 15 points while Carlo Abadeza had 12, nine rebounds, and two blocks for the Braves, who took command after outscoring the Staglets, 21-10, in the second period.
Swerwin Concepcion had 26 points, 17 rebounds, and two blocks for the Red Robins in their win over the Brigadiers.
In the other juniors game for the day, Chester Jungco had 21 points, 21 rebounds, and three steals as Lyceum outlasted Jose Rizal University, 81-73, in overtime.
The Junior Pirates improved to a 3-2 win-loss slate, joining Letran and San Sebastian for fourth place, while the Heavy Bombers dropped to 0-5.
