ARELLANO coach Jerry Codinera called out the Chiefs for their lack of poise, stressing it is that what separates champion squads like San Beda from the challengers.
The Chiefs squandered a 22-point first-half lead as they crumbled under the pressure when the Lions attacked on Friday.
“That’s why San Beda is 6-0. It’s because of their composure,” said Codinera.
Codinera noted he had been warning the Chiefs of a Lions fightback, but said his wards focused only on offense.
He noted San Beda had already trimmed the huge lead to 10 by halftime, and the Chiefs could do nothing to stop the onslaught.
“Mas more on the offensive side ’yung gusto nila tignan, hindi ’yung how to make stops,” said Codinera.
“Sayang nandoon na. It’s a good margin. Nawala ang poise. Lamang kami ng 10 at the half, sabi ko babalik ’yan, so just be ready. Nawala ’yung poise ng mga bata. Nagkanya-kanya, ‘yung bench support nawala.
Codinera was also disappointed as Lervin Flores was called for a technical foul for taunting AC Soberano on a rebound play. That led to a 10-0 run that put the Red Lions ahead, 83-75, in the fourth period.
“Very unusual ’yun na ginanun niya ’yung bola. Sabi ko, para saan ’yun? Disappointing ’yun eh, ’yung tawag kay Flores. They were quick to call. Ewan ko kung bakit. Ewan ko naman kung bakit pinukpok pa ng ganun. Na-secure na ’yung rebound, hindi niya naman ginagawa ’yun. Maybe because of the atmosphere, nawala ‘yung poise,” said Codinera.
